1st PLACE – BRISBANE REGIONAL CHAMPIONS 2018 – LEGO LEAGUE

MT ST PATRICK PS – 1st PLACE – BRISBANE REGIONAL CHAMPION

LEGO LEAGUE – ROBOTICS CHALLENGE

‘Murwillumbah……we have a problem!

At the First Lego League Team Regional competition Mt St Patrick Primary won 1st place and were named Brisbane Regional Champions. This was an OUTSTANDING achievement.  Our team of ten students from Years 5 & 6, competed against 25 other teams from both primary & secondary schools.  This was our school’s first foray into such a competition and the students did an amazing job.  The theme was ‘Into Orbit’  and our team name was ‘Murwillumbah We Have a Problem!’. Beyond the robotics element, our team researched a current problem that impacts upon astronauts who spend long periods of time in space. The team investigated the problems caused by space junk or space debris. They proposed an innovative solution to the problem to ensure that astronauts are protected from the potential dangers posed by the millions of pieces of space debris currently hurtling through space. Over the past couple of months our Lego League Team has enthusiastically and cooperatively working together solving the problem.

The students thorough knowledge of how to do coding assisted them greatly when it came to the robotics challenges. The team now go onto the State level of competition which will be held on 24th November. We wish the team well as they prepare for the next level of competition.

The following students: Rishabh Lasland, Alex Dowling, Lily Yates Lily Cronly, Hollie Mason, Sienna Bull, Flynn Jones, Koby Skinner, Billy John & Sid Longhurst are to be commended on their wonderful achievement. A special thank you also to Mr Tim Waugh who coordinated and supported the students during this process.  Thank you also to the parents who have supported their children’s endeavours with this initiative over the past few months. It certainly was an exciting day for all the familiies.
